Legal Custody
Legal Custody has to do with each parent’s authority to make decisions on their child’s behalf. Legal custody decisions typically include where the child will attend school, what doctor a child will see, what a child’s religious upbringing will be and other similar issues.
Physical Custody
Physical Custody is commonly described and understood to mean which parent a child will reside with. If a parent is awarded “primary physical custody,” it is probable the child will reside with that parent for 60% of the time or greater. If a parent is awarded “joint physical custody,” it is probable the child will reside with both parents 50% to 59% of the time. A typical joint physical custody arrangement includes one parent having the child 4 days per week for the first week, and 3 days per week the next week on a rotating schedule – so that the time shared is about equal.
Child Support
Each parent has a financial obligation to contribute to and financially support their children. In Nevada, child support is calculated statute and is based on the number of children a parent has to support, how much money a parent makes respectively, and several other important factors.
